IV Infusion via Dial a Flow

Open a new tubing, close clamp right away and set the flow regulator by pointing arrow in between open and 250. This will prevent the flow to be too fast. Hang IV bag and remove the foil tab. Spike the tubing into the opening by pushing in and twisting. Squeeze the drip chamber to get medicine started about half way in the drip chamber. Open the tubing clamp to prime the tubing. Prime the entire length of the tubing to remove all the air out. Make sure that the medicine reaches the tip of the tubing. Once primed, close the tubing clamp. Now you are ready to infuse. Alcohol wipe the tip of your line. Flush your line with 10 ml Saline. Connect tubing to your line and open the tubing clamp. Your flow regulator setting should be pointed to _____. After the infusion is done, close the tubing clamp, disconnect the tubing line from your line. Cover the tip of the tubing line with the small blue caps - only do this if you are re-using the tubing within a 24-hr period – if not, hang the tubing onto the pole and discard later. Flush your line with 10 ml Saline. Flush your line with 5 ml Heparin.
