Tube Feeding - Feed and Flush Joey Pump Instructions
Taught and instructed patient/caregiver on setting up tube feeding using feed and flush system of joey pump. Attach the pump to the IV pole Inform the patient/caregiver to fill the feeding bags with formula and water prior to setting up the pump Ensure that the top of the formula in the feeding bag is 6 inches above the top of the feeding pump prior to the patient beginning the feeding cycle Turn the pump on, then press the Power button in the lower right-hand corner Load the Feeding Set. Do not overstretch the tubing Grasp the thumb tab on the valve and insert firmly into the left lower pocket Press down on the thumb tab to ensure the valve is connected into place. The thumb tab should align with the slot in the blue door. The blue door will not close if the tab is not fully engaged Grasp the black ring retainer Gently wrap the tubing around the rotor Insert the retainer directly into the upper pocket. Do not overstretch the tubing Once the feeding set is loaded, close the blue door. The pump is now ready for operation Press “Prime Pump” Press “Auto Prime” to automatically prime the pump set Press “Done” Select “Adjust Feed” then “Feed Rate” and use the buttons on the left to program the pump to 40 ml. Select “Enter”. Select “Adjust Flush” then “Flush Volume” to set the volume of water per flush cycle 200 ml. Select “Enter” Select “Flush Interval” to set the interval time between the start of each flush cycle every 6 hours. Select “Enter” then “Done” Select “Run” and a small drop will scroll down the screen indicating that the pump is running
