Tube Feeding - Giving Medicine Through the Feeding Tube

Taught and instructed patient/caregiver in giving medicine through the feeding tube. Most medicine that your doctor orders for you will be in liquid form and may be given through your feeding tube using a syringe. Some medicine does not come in liquid form. It must be crushed and placed in warm water before taking. Some medicine will not work if crushed. So be sure to ask first before crushing any of your medications. Do not dilute your medicine with formula. Do not add your medicine to the formula in the feeding set. Always flush tube with water before and after taking the medicine so that it does not plug up the tube
